ARTIST STATEMENT
This body of work focuses on portraits of people who have had a significant impact on my life. My use of portraits stems from my lifelong interest in photography, specifically capturing peoples' expressions. The graffiti-style backgrounds of my pieces reference my home of Philadelphia, a city covered in building-sized murals and vandalism. Growing up in this environment, I never questioned whether or not grafitti was accepted as a legitimate form of art. This background content visually narrates the impacts these people have had on me.
